From the vibrant city of Newcastle, drive north into the Scottish Borders region, stopping to explore Hadrian's Wall and the dense woodlands of the Kielder Forest. Its a 1 hour drive from Jedburgh to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, which is approached by a paved causeway in the North Sea.

The coastline here has many stunning beaches, as well as imposing castles such as those at Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh.

After staying the night in Alnwick, with its 'Hogwarts' castle, make your way back towards Newcastle via the ruined medieval fortress of Warkworth or the birdwatching shores of Amble.
